The P,N-substituted ferrocene [Fe{η5-C5H4–P(S)Ph2}(η5-C5H4–NHCH2tBu)] was prepared in six steps from the bromo derivative [Fe{η5-C5H4–PPh2}(η5-C5H4 −Br)]. Its reductive desulfurisation with Raney nickel afforded the corresponding phosphino-substituted derivative [Fe(η5-C5H4–PPh2)(η5-C5H4–NHCH2tBu)]. Both compounds have been structurally characterised by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies.
